Our conversation with Katie
What happens when the choices you made out of love leave you wondering where you went?
In Season 2, Episode 2 of Between Us Mother-Daughter Unfiltered (BUMDU), Katie sits down with Zeynep and Tara Khaleesi to talk about motherhood, ambition, identity, and the expectations that shape women’s lives.
The conversation makes room for complicated feelings: loving your family, appreciating the life you have, and still missing a part of yourself. Together, we examine the pressure to “have it all,” the meaning of partnership, and the messages our sons and daughters absorb from the relationships around them.
Inside the episode
Motherhood and ambition: making space for both.
How sacrifice can reshape a woman’s sense of identity.
The difference between providing and being a partner.
What children learn from the choices and relationships they witness.
Finding your voice and redefining success on your own terms.
Two generations at the table
With Tara Khaleesi bringing a daughter’s perspective and Zeynep bringing a mother’s, the conversation connects the decisions women make today with the expectations the next generation carries into tomorrow.
What Do I Tell My Daughter?
Hard-won Wisdoms for Tomorrow’s Women
After leaving a career she loved to focus on raising her twins, Katie confronts the distance between the life she expected and the woman she is becoming. Her memoir follows the personal cost of those decisions and her effort to reclaim her voice.
Through experiences of motherhood, relationship upheaval, and rebuilding, she considers how women can care deeply for their families while taking their own needs and ambitions seriously. At its heart is a question that reaches beyond one generation: what do we want our daughters to learn from the way we live?
